Welcome March, oh month who brings sweet spring!

The birds were singing outside my window when I first opened my eyes this morning.

I love March, even though we’ve been known to have freezing weather and snow in this third month of the year here in the Midwest.

I love March, because it is the herald of spring. And even if winter’s chill fingers still grip the earth, spring will not be held down.

We had tempestuous, stormy weather here a couple of days ago, which in three out of four years might have been the beginning of March.

I’m hoping Mother Nature forgot it was a leap year and that March rode in on that lion so it will go out like a lamb.

Oh happy day! March is here.

    1. Yes. Just a few quick shots and got lucky with the bird in flight. I think I’m going to practice with my multiple shoot feature. I never use it and I think I might be able to catch better action shots with it.

      Always something to learn.

  1. March is here indeed! Beautiful pictures, Christine!!! It is crazy weather in Iowa with wind and thunderstorms and maybe a little snow but no snow on the ground to speak of which is VERY strange. Normally have snow on the ground November -April!!! Not complaining!

    1. That’s good news for you. March is definitely coming in like a lion where you are. It may be a stretch here, because today looks pretty lamb-like.

  2. Hi Christine .. love the photos – and today here on the south coast of England .. it is gloriously warm – had a cold wind up until now … but it’s cooling off for the weekend .. great Spring photos .. thanks – Hilary

    1. I took a ferry across the sound from France to England once. What a beautiful trip to a beautiful country. We saw the cliffs as we approached. We visited Salisbury briefly, then on to London for a few days. I loved every minute of it.

I’m glad you’re experiencing a beautiful day today.

    1. Oh. You would have to remind me of Easter dresses and hats. We had little patten leather shoes and often times a little white purse. Now I’m going to have to go looking for photos.

      1. Well, don’t be too hard on yourself. Get yourself a four-leaf clover, a rabbit’s foot and whatever else you can think of. I’m pretty sure I just got lucky on this one.

  3. Wow, I am SO envious of spring…. we are having a HUGE snowstorm today, up to 10 inches… happy march fool’s day? Beautiful photos Christine, especially love the bird flying…. p.s. congrats on being freshly pressed; I can be envious of that too 😉

    1. I like snow. But I love it when March brings with it warm fresh days. That happens only sometimes here. The bird flying photo was just dumb luck. (As was getting FP, I’m afraid.)

    1. Thanks, Kathy. A lucky day, I guess. My inbox is bursting. I’ll be chained to my computer today dealing with the comments. Not complaining.

  4. I love springtime. I love it now in Texas. I loved it obsessively in Ohio and Michigan. Winter really wore me out up there. Welcome March. Lovely post with fabulous photos! Blessings to you…

    1. Thanks, Carol Ann. I didn’t realize you were in Texas. I don’t always think of Texas as having four distinct seasons. I was surprised to learn that it gets cold there in winter. Or at least cool.

  5. Johannes and I spent almost 20 years in Florida before coming to Texas. Texas has winter and the leaves turn in autumn, but the colors are not as bright as in colder places. Winter is mild, although last year was a record breaker. We had twelve inches of snow! This is not normal for Texas. Snow usually comes here as a dusting that disappears quickly.

    1. Thanks for stopping by and leaving kind words, Connie. Spring is my all time favorite. I’m not sure what comes in second. I love them all.

Thanks for stopping by. I’m going to check out your blog right now.

  6. Yay, March is certainly a sign of good things to come. I can’t wait for springtime to come myself and just finished writing a blog post about it, coincidentally!

  7. Well, even though we Torontonians haven’t had an actual winter this year, I’m still excited for Spring! Such a beautiful time of year!

    Welcome, March!! 🙂

    1. We really haven’t had much of a winter here this year either. That’s okay. I like snow, but I am always ready for spring.

      Thanks for stopping by.

    1. Thanks. Do they even have seasons in LA? I thought it was blue skies all the time, or something like that. I’ve been to LA a couple of times and enjoyed it very much.

  8. Yay March! I’m so ready for spring! I looove the first picture, that little guy is my favorite bird 🙂

    1. The chickadees are cute little guys. I like most of the little birds. In fact, I just simply like most birds.

Thanks for stopping by. Here’s to spring.

  9. I am ready for spring too, but we had a snow fall today, the lake is frozen, I am not expecting Spring for a month or so, the trials of living in Ontario…
    Congratulations on being freshly pressed.

    1. It is, isn’t it? That’s how I felt too. We may still have a few winter days ahead, but this gives me hope for the future. Thanks for stopping by.

  10. SO ENJOYED YOUR PHOTO’S OF NEW LIFE … NEW BEGINNING’S IN STORE THAT WE ALL SO ANXIOUSLY ARE AWAITING FOR ….

  11. I love March! Lots of birthdays and the first day of Spring. New beginnings. Maybe a surprise snow storm. Sun and warmth. Wind. Snow Geese. Marching on…

    1. Same here. My birthday is on Monday, so maybe that also has something to do with my love of March. And let’s not forget St. Paddy’s Day.

      Thanks for stopping by.

      1. Happy Birthday!! I share this birthday month with two sisters, my daughter, and two nephews. I love all your photos!

  12. Hard to imagine spring officially arrives in three weeks! I also know we’ve had some of our worst winter weather in March in the past, so anything goes. It got to 80 here today, was glad I’d left a couple short-sleeved tops in the closet, and sandals easy to get to. 🙂

    1. I know. We’ve had pretty bad weather in March too. I have a photo from just last year of a big snowfall towards the end of March. But it’s nice to experience these kinds of days.

Based on my San Antonio experience, I’m glad you kept the short-sleeved tops and sandals easy to get to too. I’m going to have to do a little closet rearrangement soon.

  13. Time go fast! Feel like January still here. Spring is coming in mid-March! Your pictures is beautiful. Great job! Followed your blog! 🙂

    1. Thanks. I hope to see you again. I’ll be trying to check out everyone’s blog who commented. It may take me a while to make the rounds.

  14. Really nice pictures! I agree with Grumpa Joe, I just need some hints of Spring and Sun, and here I found some. Thank you for that! I really look forward to colorful flowers and gardening and planting. I cant’t wait for spring to come!!!

  15. Love the photos, thank you for sharing. The first signs of spring are visible here in England as well 🙂

    1. I love my blogging friends across the sea. I’ve been to England only once and hope to visit again.

We must be on similar seasons.

      Thanks for stopping by.

      1. England sure is lovely in spring which will be in a few weeks time. If ever you come over for another visit, try doing it in spring 😀

    1. Oh now. Maybe you need to move south!

I actually love the snow. We don’t usually get that much here. I think it creates the most beautiful landscape. But I understand how you might get tired of it.

      Wishing you warmer days.

    1. The one thing in my life that is freshly pressed. Ha ha. Otherwise things are pretty rumpled around here. Ha ha.

It’s been fun. Thanks for your kind words.

  16. Great photos, spring is here too in the North East of England. Many sightings of crocus, daffodils just waiting to come out, buds on trees and the grass is growing back for my horses (always nice for them).

    1. I have a blogging friend in Maine who still has snow. So I think you’re very lucky. I just love the spring flowers.

      Envious of the horses.

  17. Looking at your chickadee photo reminds me to start turning some spring time bird houses soon.
Great post and photos Christine, and congrats of the freshly pressed.
It sure looks like spring weather will be here early this season

    Dan

    1. You know, I’d like to learn more about that. We put up a few birdhouses, mostly decorative I suppose. But I’m not sure of when to do what. One more thing to learn.

      Thanks for stopping by.

      1. Most of those mini bird houses I make are also just for inside the house, but I do from time to time get in the mood to make a few out door turned bird houses and keep some of the bark on the log that I use. I also never sand or paint them……Happy spring to you
        Dan

      2. Nothing on my blog about the birdy houses….But you just gave me a idea to write a post on how a turned bird house is made – now I know what I can use the butternut trimmings on…..thanks

        D

  18. What a wonderful way to start your day. The joy of nature greeting you as you finally roll out of bed to get that cup of Joe, yet the flowers have been up since sunrise and turned their faces (petals) to the warm inviting sun. I walk out onto the patio to sit down with that before menitoned cup of brew and relax to the sound of spring.

    This is true happiness.

    1. It makes me want to be there. It’s not quite warm enough to have a relaxing cup of tea (in my case) on the deck (also in my case), but it will be soon.

      Enjoy.

  19. Beautiful photos! I live in Florida and just put 18 grown from seed tomatoes in the garden.Everything is blooming and its great! Your blog rocks! Thanks

    1. Thank you. Now you’re kind of rubbing it in. It will be a while before we are able to plant anything here in the midwest. I hope you have a bountiful harvest—tomatoes parmesan, tomato sauce, stewed tomatoes . . .

    1. Are you familiar with the WordPress Freshly Pressed page? You can see it here:
      http://wordpress.com/#!/fresh/

I was lucky and they selected my post for that page. It gets a lot of views there and I have been swamped with emails and comments. (A nice problem to have.)

I hope you are having nice weather where you are.

  20. First, congratulations on being “Freshly Pressed.” Second, I agree — march is something to be celebrated. I love to see bits of green pushing up through the dirt and browned leaves. So much promise!

    1. Thank you. That’s it exactly: “bits of gree pushing up through the dirt and browned leaves.”

      I love it.
      Thanks for stopping by.

  21. Great post, nice photos! I’ve been hearing the birds sing early in the morning too. I’m in Colorado and we got snow yesterday but a couple days ago it was warm and I noticed a spider crawling on the ground and a couple flying insects. If you look closely you can see the green grass blades coming up. I’m so excited for Spring! 🙂

    1. Thank you. I love the sound of the birds in the morning. I actually thought it was a little early for that, but hey, I’ll take it.

I’ll bet it is nice in Colorado. I hope to take a trip there soon.

  22. Thank you for sharing! I also LOVE March because of Spring! One AMAZING extra hour of sunshine for me in San Diego!

The rainbow of colors starting to show also makes me happy and keeps me calm:)

    1. The days are feeling longer here already. I love it when it stays light at night. I’ll bet you have a lot of great weather in San Diego. I’ve never been there but have been to San Francisco, Carmel, and LA. Loved it.

      Thanks for stopping by.

    1. Oh no. I hope you like the idea of hot cocoa in front of a fire. I actually love the snow and feel like we never get quite enough here. But by the time March rolls around I am ready for spring.

    1. You’re several steps ahead of us. I haven’t seen any daffodils yet. The early flowers are just beginning to bloom.

      Thanks for stopping by.

  23. So beautiful! Here in South Carolina spring has definitely begun…waking up to the chirping birds is a much needed change from the angry buzzer on the alarm, playing with plants a much needed respite from my studies!

    1. I always found it much harder to focus on school work, all those years ago, once the warm air of spring arrived. Good luck with your studies.

  24. I love that moment when you step out of the house in the morning, smell the air, and think to yourself “Yes! Today it’s Spring…” Greetings from Glasgow, Scotland, where the daffodils are just emerging.

    1. Yes! Exactly.
We’re having stormy weather right now. So I’m waiting for the next moment when I “step out of the house in the morning, smell the air, and think to myself ‘Yes!”

I love my blogging friends across the ocean. I’ve not seen any daffodils here yet. But they are budding.

I hope to get to Scotland someday. It’s high on our to-visit list.

  25. Love your pictures of the new life getting ready to bloom. Yes, I also love Spring, Summer, and Fall….. and like you, in March, I have a birthday also…. we are both lucky ! Just looking at your site I like it…. and now I’m following you, hope you don’t mind?
    Ed
PS… Let me be the first to wish you a Happy Birthday, and a great, Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

  26. What a lovely blog! Please read my blog “the thing about March” and note how much we both appreciate the month. Cheers!

    1. That is exciting. My husband does the veggies in our gardens. I don’t think he has anything perrennial. He still plants seeds and it’s a little early for that here.

  27. I couldn’t agree more as it allows an opportunity for new beginnings, snow melting, and sunshine to peer through.

Thank you for reminding me that there are good things to look forward to, even if it’s only a change of the month and renewal of the seasons. 😀

    Pink

  28. Especially love the bird shots…the flight’s an amazing catch & who doesn’t love a chickadee?

  29. What a breathtaking profile and blog you have created. Spring is worthy of celebration.and much much more. Since I am just getting started in “pressing words” so to speak, I am thrillled to have visited your page first.
Boy, do I have my work cut out.:)

Enjoy the unfolding and unwrapping of this glorious and Spiritually blessed season. When the lilacs bloom, I will once again open my arms and breathe the fragrance of life.

      1. So do I , until march. Then I only want spring. In Norway we usually have snow from the end of October to March or April. 😉

  30. April is the promise of spring month here in Sweden though it does seem to be making inroads early. Fingers crossed March won’t bury us under feet of snow like it typically does.

    Grats on FP!

      1. Quite! 🙂 And I guess March is filling the role of spring here now. I spotted the beginnings of daffodils yesterday! 😀

  31. I’d just like to thank everyone who left kind and complimentary comments, and also those of you who reblogged this post. I appreciate that you took the time to read and respond to my post.

Happy spring, when it finally arrives for good. It snowed here today. 🙂

  32. The other day I watched a tree full of robins snacking on some tree berries and became so enlivened with the thrill that spring could be about to launch out from the murky dirty snow mounds that I was late for dinner out with my sweetie.

    Spring….ah

Blue skies and green daffodil fingers,
    CricketMuse

    1. Thanks, Jolina. It was sheer luck. Now that I’ve remembered how to use my multiple shots feature on my Nikon, I hope to get more birds in flight.
